Happy 2 Months!

Everyone says "time flies" and I usually roll my eyes at it, but really, these past two months have flown. We are at the point where Hudson is a very normal part of our lives, and in fact Henri was surprised when I reminded her the other day that we haven't always had Hudson (also disbelieving; I hadn't realized I would be considered foolish quite so soon). He's a pretty good baby (whatever that means) and has his quirks. I'll mention that he normally sleeps from 9:30 till about 7, but of course last night he didn't start to wind down until midnight and even then only gave us 5 hours (and was a grump all day today). He recognizes our voices and faces and gets a huge grin when we come into view. I've heard him laugh a few times in response to something we've said and it's adorable. He loves to be naked, toasty warm, and cuddled (just not at the same time). Hudson still hates the pacifier but enjoys sucking on his fist/trying to stuff the whole thing in his mouth. He's a good nurser (I mean, anything is fabulous after Henri!) and has the most annoying whiny cry when he's bored or frustrated. He's also very determined not to miss out on anything and expects to be included at the family dinner table and wants a running commentary while we're in the car. He's definitely my love bug and we're so glad he's ours!

Current stats:
H: 24"
W: 13# 5oz (this was after not eating for the past 4 hours, though...)
HC: 42cm (still off the growth chart on this one)

And a few attempts at a decent picture of him. He was talking and smiling a ton until that suspicious-looking camera made it's appearance....also, the shadow on all of them? Was driving me nuts until I realized it was me. Oops.

He's good at looking quietly pleased

Chubby thighs

Trying to figure out the camera

Hen wanted in on the action...just not on the blue pillow. So there were tears.

Look how little he is! Or how big Henri is!

Smirking

Hen giving him a bath tonight

He was loving it, just listening intently here to something she was telling him. Or maybe hating all the pinkness he's surrounded by.

Holiday Weekend

Seems like we've been in the car a lot this weekend, but the destinations have all been fun. Steve had today off (thanks, Columbus!) so he took the kids for the morning and let me study. Then when he came back we "spontaneously" decided to go to Ogunquit, except with kids nothing is really spontaneous because it requires about an hour to pack and even after loading in the kitchen sink you've still forgotten something. In our case it was the wind/rain shield for the stroller, and the fact that we'd be returning in normal rush hour plus return-from-holiday-weekend traffic. Oops. Still, anything is worth spending some time on the beach and it was a nice way to begin our week. Hudson was actually great on the ride up, decided he hated the beach as soon as we got out of the car, begrudgingly nursed, and then slept the rest of the afternoon as long as one of us held him. I've no doubt he'll be as enamored as Henri in a few months.

She takes her digging seriously

The clouds kept changing and looked really neat

The beginning of many castles

Our trusty workhorse

He was not thrilled about the constant wind

Hen just read a book at Grammies about a trip to the ocean so everything was "like in the book, mom!". Seaweed played a big part today

House with moat in progress

Can you spot the seaweed gatherer?

Bringing back her spoils

I don't remember why she was burying it

Plotting....

A little more content with Daddy. Check out the red hair! :)

Happy snoozes.

Tidal rivers and "sinks".

Hud back to snuggling

Family picture attempt # I can't even keep track. We'll get a decent one some day!

Post peak VT

I'd been hearing a lot of "we don't even know what he (Hudson) looks like" from my family so the kiddos and I made a 24 hour trip up to show him off. Anna had a home game Friday afternoon so it was a good time to go and show some Eagle support (worked as they won 5-1), we had the most glorious fall weather you could ask for (have the sunburn to prove it), and Henri got her spoiled tank topped off. The kiddos were fairly well behaved on the ride with just the last 30 minutes being a scream fest and are tucked into bed for the night. While the family saw Hud you will not because anytime the camera was out today he was on my chest in the carrier. Anyone know a good chiropractor? He's getting heavy....

tutu from Abi

All the trees were past their peak but the fall flowers were looking great

Henri noticed (and picked these) for the first time today. She doesn't quite get the concept of "poison" yet

Portrait attempt

She loves flowers

This was his position most of today

Westerly views

Papa's herb garden

Grammie picking grape tomatoes that self seeded

Henri will eat tomatoes alllll day if allowed. Actually, she had them for breakfast, mixed in to her yogurt, on Friday...

Headed down the path to see Great-Gram

She keeps everything looking so nice around the farm

Can you spot the old equipment? Grape vines are taking over

Apples!

Grammie introduced Henri to milkweed pods

Shaking them to seed Great-Grams lawn. I'm sure she appreciated it

Truthfully, it was Grammie that wanted to play with them

Fairy parachutes!

Papa planted these many many years ago. Great Gram's been making applesauce out of them

South views from the pasture

More flowers

More signs it's going to be a rough winter. The fir trees are loaded with cones.

We saw lots of woolie bears as well. Great-Gram showing one to Hen (she wasn't too sure about them)

Here it had just moved and made Hen jump

Awww, he is cute. And then I put the bear in her hand and all was fine until it started to walk and then Henri started to scream hysterically, flung the bear back at Great Gram and ran up the path sobbing and refused to come back to say goodbye to Gram. Small steps, I guess....

A  bit more fall cheer
So, back home and tucked in. Church tomorrow with perhaps a saunter afterwards, then just a lot of studying stretching out in front of me. Very much hoping Hud makes tonight one of his epic sleep nights!
